TRENTON, NJ—A Middlesex County manpleaded today to distributing images and videos of child pornography over theInternet, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Jacob Rios, 24, of Old Bridge Township,New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Peter G. Sheridan inTrenton federal court to an information charging him with one count ofdistribution of child pornography.
According to documents filed in thiscase and statements made in court:
Rios admitted to knowingly distributingchild pornography between March 3, 2011, and July 11, 2011, using GigaTribe, apeer-to-peer network. Rios created accounts on GigaTribe through which hedownloaded pictures and videos of child pornography. He placed those picturesand videos into the shared directory of his GigaTribe accounts, thereby sharingthem with other GigaTribe users.
As part of his guilty plea, Rios agreedto forfeit the laptop and hard drives that he used to commit the offense. Healso will be required to register as a sex offender.
The distribution of child pornographycount to which Rios pleaded guilty is punishable by a maximum potentialsentence of 20 years in prison, a mandatory minimum sentence of five years inprison, and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is currently scheduled for January 3,2013.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited specialagents of the FBI’s Cyber Crimes Squad, under the direction of Special Agent inCharge Michael B. Ward in Newark, for the investigation leading to today’sguilty plea.
