PHOENIX (AP) - Johnnie Robinson has won the Democratic nomination for the 4th Congressional District seat.

Robinson and Mikel Weisser had been separated by less than one-tenth of a percentage point following last month's primary election. Robinson was declared the winner this week after a recount of votes.

The San Tan Valley man is making his first run at political office. He faces an uphill battle against Republican Rep. Paul Gosar in the general election.

The heavily Republican 4th District runs from western Arizona through Prescott and south of Phoenix.

Robinson says his top goals include improving the economy and the lives of military members, strengthening the country's educational system and creating a cost-effective health care system.
