Crews responded to a house fire Tuesday morning and found two people dead inside.
A passerby called 911 around 8 a.m. to report heavy smoke coming from the inside of the home.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the home was secure -- locked down. They forced their way in through the front door.
Once inside, they found six small fires burning in various rooms, including closets. Accelerants were also recovered.
Crews later found a man and woman in the master bedroom.
Neighbors and friends of the couple are devastated by what happened.
"It's just sad. It's a sad day, when people don't let you know what's going on..you don't know what's going on," said Sharon Smith.
Phoenix police and firefighters remain at the scene investigating this incident in an effort to confirm exactly what happened.
Officers recovered a weapon at the scene and they are referring to this case as a murder-suicide.
The names of the deceased were not released, but police say they were in their 60s.
